A few of the more unusual jobs...

We never turn away from a challenge

Keeping our heads down

A customer in Northern Ireland came to us with a job which required drilling to depths of up to 30 metres, however, the headroom on-site was severely restricted because of low litter nets which could not be removed.

Using a standard landfill drilling rig was out of the question, but we devised a solution which entailed modifying one of our rigs to reduce its height, allowing us to operate under the litter nets. To date, the modified rig has installed over 70 gas wells on this site and with more to do, we’ll just keep our heads down and get on with the job.

Planning for minimal disruption

We were contacted by our client with a request to drill and install three monitoring wells adjacent to an active railway. A key objective of the job was to minimise disruption to the railway, and therefore the wells had to be installed as quickly as possible.

After extensive planning, and the help of an extended shift, the drilling crew mobilised, drilled and installed the three wells and demobilised within the same day, ensuring the railway was closed for no more than one day.

Once again South Tyne Drilling’s commitment and attention to detail resulted in an extremely happy client.

Distance no object

A client contacted us with an urgent request for the installation of 36 gas wells and 1 leachate well - on the island of Guernsey!

Despite the logistical problems of transporting a drilling rig, equipment and materials over land and sea, within short order we mobilised a drilling rig and crew to Guernsey. The project, including mobilisation and demobilisation, was completed within a fortnight, and made for a highly satisfied customer.

The Team

The South Tyne Drilling team is an integral part of the company's success. Headed by brothers Paul and Mark McCrindle, there is nothing in the field of landfill drilling which they have not encountered.

Driven by a hands-on approach, and a commitment to investment in people and training, South Tyne Drilling believes in keeping control of all key functions in-house to ensure a personal service for all clients.

All operators are certified to use butt fusion and electrofusion welding methods and all lead drillers are qualified to NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 in Land Drilling.
